Back in February 2020, Wyomissing-based gambling company PENN Entertainment acquired 36% of the satirical media company Barstool Sports. Barstool–known for its comedic sports content–exploded during the pandemic and started pushing gambling when states began legalizing sports betting. Since sports gambling was legalized, it opened its Barstool Sportsbook at various PENN locations. One of those locations is Hollywood Casino Morgantown

Morgantown is an easy drive from the Greater Philadelphia area, all you have to do is take the turnpike. Bizcolumnist.com visited the casino to check out what’s it like to place a bet at the sportsbook.

Hollywood Casino Morgantown is a “mini-casino,” which means it operates up to 750 slot machines. It’s owned and operated by PENN Entertainment–and completed its full acquisition of Barstool Sports in early 2023–so the sports betting area is fully loaded with Barstool branding.

Although you can bet on the Barstool Sportsbook app, the casino has a live betting area. You can grab up-to-date lines via video boards or paper sheets. The novelty of placing a bet is the coveted ticket showing your wager and payout.

If you’re planning on visiting, you should watch a game in the sportsbook area. All of the tables are angled toward the TVs. The middle bar features a jumbotron-like viewing experience along with a full menu for dining.

The Barstool Sportsbook area is larger than expected. You can place sports bets on self-service machines or tap a beer at the self-pour station. It’s also located on the opposite side of the casino from the smoking section so the dining area is smoke-free from other visiting patrons.

This mini-casino offers a unique experience with its sportsbook, slot machines, table games, and live music. If you’re looking for a new place to watch a game, this location is highly recommended!
