Traveling by car to anywhere in the Greater Philadelphia area doesn’t take long. In under an hour, you can visit many historical towns. As for local history, the former iron town of Phoenixville is a must-visit stop. If you’re looking to take a day trip to Valley Forge, immerse yourself in the history of the Revolutionary War encampment, and when you’re ready to eat, drive over to the Seven Stars Inn for a memorable dining experience.

Visiting the Seven Stars Inn

Don’t take your car for granted, this almost 300-year-old inn used to be frequented by travelers in their Conestoga Wagons. Think about this: a horse’s average walking speed is 4.3 miles per hour, and the distance from Philadelphia to Phoenixville is 28.7 miles. That’s 6 hours and 40 minutes!

Even if my calculations are slightly off (I am not a horse expert by any means), that’s quite the trip and you most likely need a night’s rest to continue. Hence, the reason Inns exist!

The history speaks for itself at the Seven Stars Inn at the corner of Ridge and Hoffecker Roads. Per the Inn’s website, the Inn was a regular rendezvous spot for the militia. It’s also documented that General George Washington departed the Inn on the night of September 18, 1777 to cross the Schuylkill River at Parker’s Ford shortly after marching on Ridge Road to defend the military supplies at the Reading Furnace.

Indulge in Comfort Food

Now I know you’re not a member of the militia, but you can still dine like it’s your last night before battle. The Seven Stars Inn is known for its gigantic portion sizes. Just take a look at the dish of baked jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab and hollandaise on top.

The only course that is served at the Inn is dinner, so make sure you call for a reservation. The tight quarters make for limited seating but a cozy atmosphere.

There’s also a cocktail lounge with a menu that pairs well with any meal.

You can make a reservation by calling 610 495-5205 or visit sevenstarsinn.com/reservations.
